Selected project experience from Efios Rail since 2002 — spanning ERTMS test management, high-speed rail verification, metro signalling, programme management, and human factors research across the Netherlands and Europe.

Leading the design, development, testing and implementation of the Digital European Instructions application on behalf of ProRail Traffic Control. A complex and novel programme with strong Agile, design thinking, and stakeholder management aspects — both nationally and at European level. From 2026 this new way of working will be available throughout the Netherlands.

Led the introduction of the European Instructions (TSI Operations) on behalf of ProRail Traffic Control, ensuring early adoption ahead of the European regulatory deadline to meet the requirements of the ERTMS Programme. Managed over 50 stakeholders under complex legal constraints.

Part of the ERTMS V&V team, working together with the infrastructure provider, train operating companies, and other stakeholders to develop, plan and execute the complex V&V programme — including simulation and in situ testing — for the national ERTMS rollout.

Supervised the Signalling and Control (S&C) component of the new CAF M7 rolling stock for the Amsterdam metro network, including system integration verification and acceptance activities.

Project management responsibility for the specification, design, procurement, and commissioning of a state-of-the-art test track facility equipped with ERTMS L2, ATO-capable infrastructure, catenary, and ICT systems. Part of ProRail's innovation portfolio (2019–2020).

Applied design thinking methodology to create, prototype, and evaluate shunting indicator solutions for ERTMS L2 SH mode — addressing operational and safety limitations of the current baseline.

Established and executed a scientific research programme examining whether Driver Advisory Systems (DAS) create excessive mental workload for train drivers — using eye-tracking in human-in-the-loop simulation experiments.

Led the NS component of the ORBIT programme aimed at reducing unintentional red-signal passings (SPADs). Executed in close collaboration with ProRail over a sustained multi-year period.

Managed multiple projects within the national ERTMS rollout programme (2014–2028), including requirements specification, stakeholder analysis, European tender support, and the establishment of a separate legal entity for the ERTMS Academy.

Managed a proof-of-concept project for novel odometry technologies — third-generation Doppler Radar and LiDar speed acquisition — mounted on a TRAXX locomotive to generate performance data for NS and technology suppliers.

One of the largest urban transport infrastructure projects in the Netherlands. Efios Rail was engaged to develop the Test and Proefbedrijf (operational trial) vision and strategy for the Noord-Zuid Lijn metro project.

Managed the complete ERTMS L2 Dual Signalling test programme on the Amsterdam–Utrecht corridor, including supervision of the first phase of commercial operation under ERTMS.

Led the full test programme for the V250 high-speed train on behalf of NS International, covering admission preparation for both domestic and international routes including train-track integration testing.

Test Management and Test Coordinator for the ICE3M ETCS/ERTMS train-track integration tests on the Amsterdam–Utrecht line, with preliminary test runs on HSL-Zuid and Hanzelijn.

Managed and led an EMC test programme for a dedicated VIRM-4 train, including dynamic test and measurement runs across the Dutch rail network.

Verification and Validation of superstructure and infrastructure for the Dutch Ministry of Public Works (2002–2007), together with Infrabel and Belgorail for cross-border testing. In 2007–2009: train-track integration tests with multiple EVCs and EMC testing.

Consultant at a specialist firm helping global organisations build and sustain Communities of Practice — designing collaborative knowledge structures, facilitating practitioner networks, and embedding continuous learning across complex organisations.

Active participant and facilitator in a pan-European knowledge management network spanning multiple countries and sectors. Contributed to CoP frameworks and European exchange on organisational learning over a seven-year period.

Collaborative research engagement exploring the design and effectiveness of Communities of Practice in large organisations — contributing practitioner knowledge to academic research on organisational learning and knowledge creation.

Supported BAT in establishing global Communities of Practice to connect knowledge workers across countries and functions — breaking down silos, accelerating best-practice sharing, and strengthening learning culture within a complex multinational enterprise.

Designed and facilitated Communities of Practice for operational knowledge sharing across global mining sites — connecting expert practitioners across dispersed locations and building collaborative infrastructure to sustain organisational learning at scale.

Supported Colombia's national oil and gas company in developing a CoP programme to capture and transfer critical engineering knowledge — addressing knowledge retention risks and connecting experienced practitioners with newer generations of engineers.

Supported one of the world's largest container shipping companies in knowledge management initiatives — designing practitioner networks and collaborative processes to enable effective knowledge sharing across globally distributed port operations and commercial functions.

Early career role during the formative years of the public internet. Gained exposure to the dynamics of fast-moving technology organisations, knowledge management challenges in rapidly scaling environments, and the learning questions that arise when a company's core product is itself a knowledge retrieval system.
